Performance and Installation by Hector Canonge
December 20, 2016, 7-10p

LABoRAL is a durational performance and immersive environment, a reflection on the present position of labor and politics in the United States.  Part experiment and part social criticism, the project is based on Canonge’s incursion in various communities in New York City where undocumented workers: day laborers, sex workers, restaurant servers, and street vendors among others are forced to take low paying jobs.

LABoRAL is an experiential lab, a window to labor relations, and an instrument to record the stories/histories the artist was able to gather. The artist will develop his new work over a period of 3 hours transforming kinetically the main floor space of Glasshouse. Through LABoRAL Canonge explores possible relations at times interacting with audiences. The presentation will culminate in a 20 minute multimedia performance.

Admission is $10

LABoRAL was made possible, in part, by the Franklin Furnace Fund supported by Jerome Foundation; the Lambent Foundation Fund of Tides Foundation, and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
